The stage is set for Sunday's Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Ariz., at State Farm Stadium between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. In terms of tracking where this year's participants played high school football, Mississippi and Texas have bragging rights.

Chris Jones, Fletcher Cox, Kenneth Gainwell and former Starkville teammates A.J. Brown and Willie Gay are among nine Mississippi prep football products expected to take the field for the final game of the season. Brown and Gay led the Yellowjackets to a Class 6A state title in 2015.

Starkville is one of six high schools that has one player on each team in Super Bowl LVII, most notably the Kelce brothers.

Jason and Travis Kelce both attended Cleveland Heights (Ohio) but never played together.

Carlos Dunlap (Class of 2007) and Robert Quinn (2008) played together at Fort Dorchester (North Charleston, S.C.), Darius Harris (2014) and Nakobe Dean (2019) went to Horn Lake (Miss.), Shane Buechele (2016) and Kyron Johnson (2017) played together at Lamar (Arlington, Texas) and Jerick McKinnon (2010) and Trey Sermon (2017) both graduated from Sprayberry (Marietta, Ga.).

Texas is tied with Mississippi atop the list with nine players, including both starting quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes graduated from Whitehouse in 2014 while Hurts graduated from Channelview in 2016. This will be the fourth time during the Super Bowl era that both starting quarterbacks hail from the same state.

Florida has the third-most with eight followed by Georgia (7), Ohio (7) and California (6). Alabama, Louisiana, Pennsylvania and Virginia were the only other states to have at least five players.

In total, 32 different states have at least one player participating in Super Bowl LVII. Jordan Mailata of the Eagles is the only player who attended high school outside of the United States. He went to Condell Park in New South Wales.
