Season Preview:The Monarchs return virtually everyone from last season, as all five starters and each of their top seven scorers are back for 2019-20.
After a strong finish to 2018-19, the CIF Open Division state title contenders look to get back to the CIF Open Division Southern Section championship game and build on their California best 11 state titles.
To capture No. 12, the experienced group will likely have to get through No. 19 Rancho Christian and two-time defending champions No. 3 Sierra Canyon in postseason play.
During the regular season, the Monarchs take on No. 6 DeMatha, Whitney Young and Bishop O'Connell, while also traveling to the Tarkanian Classic and Les Schwab Invitational.
Askew, a 5-star Kentucky commit, will again lead the charge, with Breidenbach, Hornery, Prukop and Evans all back to round out the starting rotation.
Mater Dei has a strong blend of chemistry, experience and depth that will make this well-coached group tough to beat.
