1. Kimberly2016 record: 14-0
Head coach: Steve Jones
It's hard to fathom a team other than Kimberly entering the season at No. 1. The Papermakers have won four straight state titles and 56 games in a row — the longest 11-man streak in the nation — and boast a record of 133-9 in the past 11 years.
Kimberly lost a ton of seniors last season, but that never been an issue previously. The team's potent offense will return one of its big-time threats in all-state running back
DJ Stewart. In his first year as the No. 1 back, Stewart had 1,857 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also had 387 yards receiving and six touchdowns.
The team will have to replace three-year starting quarterback Danny Vanden Boom, who is preferred walk-on at Wisconsin. Senior
Alec Rosner should be the frontrunner to take over under center. Tight end
Tanner Johnson was seventh on the team in receptions and is the most experienced pass catcher back with 75 yards and three scores.
On defense, the Papermakers have the second best prospect in the state, according to 247Sports.com, defensive end
Boyd Dietzen. The Wisconsin commit had 15 sacks and three forced fumbles a season ago.
Max Dorn is the team's top guy back in the secondary, amassing 21 tackles as a junior.

2. Fond du Lac2016 record: 9-3
Head coach: Mike Gnewuch
The Cardinals gave Kimberly its closest game last season, a 32-29 affair in the third round of playoffs. The team returns four of its top skill players on offense and should be tough to stop when it possesses the ball.
Fond du Lac was run-heavy last season with two players over 900 yards rushing. No. 2 runner
Colton Wasieleski amassed 937 yards and 13 touchdowns and will be an important cog this year. Quarterback
Jack Cole had an impressive junior campaign, throwing for 1,781 yards and 20 touchdowns.
His top two targets are back —
Peyton Nett had 333 yards and five touchdowns, while
Henry Lange finished with 269 yards and five scores.
Junior linebacker
Ben Viau is coming off a strong season at linebacker with 58 tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

3. Franklin2016 record: 12-2
Head coach: Louis Brown
For the second time in the last four years, the Sabers made it to the state title game but couldn't bring home the gold ball. Franklin will have a strong chance to get back to state thanks to a strong offense that returns some big names.
Quarterback
Max Alba finished his junior year with 2,544 yards passing and 29 touchdowns. His two 1,000-yard receivers from a season ago are both gone, which means
Jake Stauber (253 yards, four touchdowns) will need to step up. The Sabers' top returning running back is
Ken Kobayashi, who had just 137 yards and one score last year. Offensive tackle
Trevor Shohoney is one of the top players in the state.
Cornerback
Brad Tobin will be the leader of the defense. He had 83 tackles, six interceptions and three fumble recoveries as a junior.
Murphy McCutcheon and
Alek Riestra will play big roles defensively.

Head coach: Tim Simon
The Cardinals are primed for a deep postseason run this year after advancing to Level 3 in 2016. The team's top two running backs return, as does its starting quarterback.
Dion Huff ran for 1,018 yards and 14 touchdowns to lead the way for Middleton. Fellow senior
James Pabst rattled off 505 yards and three scores.
Quarterback
Davis Roquet was effective last season when he had to throw, finishing with 1,212 yards and eight touchdown passes. He will miss his top two receivers, who both graduated. Huff was the third highest receiver a year ago at 228 yards and two touchdowns.
Offensive guard
Jarrett Horst is a top-25 recruit in the state in his class.
Jimmy Frusciante is the leading tackler back with 47 stops and a pair of interceptions.

Head coach: Pete McAdams
The Panthers are coming off their strongest season in quite some time. The returning players hope to build off last year's success.
A lot of weight will be placed on the shoulders of
Colton Kizewski, who was second on the team as a junior with 827 yards rushing and nine touchdowns.
Brady Woyak steps in at quarterback, following a big year from Beau Rosenthal. Woyak got into four games as a junior but threw just 20 passes. He's also a formidable runner, something the Panthers rely on from their signal callers. Top receiver
Joey Hauser is back. One of the best basketball players in the country, the 6-foot-8 target had 491 yards receiving and eight touchdowns last season.
John Bohanski is coming off a year in which he had 87 tackles and three sacks. Fellow linebacker
Alec Borchardt came through with six sacks.
