St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) held off No. 4
St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 9-3 in high school football's biggest game of the weekend Friday night.
Host Aquinas scored the game's only touchdown in overtime as quarterback
Curt Casteel snuck in from a yard out. Though the Raiders would miss the extra point, the defense came up big on Bosco's ensuing possession – as it did all night.
High-powered Bosco mustered just 210 yards of its own and star quarterback
Re-Al Mitchell threw three interceptions.
Running back
Daniel Carter was the workhorse for Aquinas, carrying the ball 20 times for a hard-earned 67 yards.
Bosco operated in Aquinas territory for much of the fourth quarter, but a missed field goal and interception prevented it from putting points on the board.
Aquinas will move on to face
Piper (Sunrise, Fla.) next while Bosco meets
Garces Memorial (Bakersfield, Calif.) next Saturday.
