De'Vonta Smith of Central (Brooksville, Fla.) went over 400 yards rushing in a single game for the third time this season to highlight this week's list of national high school football stat stars.
Smith, who ranks No. 4 in the nation according to the MaxPreps leaderboards with 2,453 yards, ran for 420 yards on 41 carries with four touchdowns in a 28-20 win over Hernando (Brooksville, Fla.). Smith also has efforts of 491 and 425 yards this year.
Smith currently ranks No. 24 on the all-time career rushing list in Florida, according to Florida High School Records compiled by Buddy Collings.
Bryan Ponder of Bells (Texas) finished two completions short of the state record in Texas. He completed 46 of 57 passes in a 94-74 win over Celeste. According to Texas High School Football History, the record is 48 completions. Ponder also edges his brother Derrick on the list. The elder Ponder brother had 45 completions in a game in 2014.
