Top 10 Georgia football players from the Class of 2018
1. QB — Trevor Lawrence, CartersvilleThe 6-foot-6, 200-pounder isn't just the top-rated quarterback in his class, but the No. 1 recruit overall. The MaxPreps 2016 Junior Player of the Year led the Hurricanes to a 15-0 record and second straight AAAA Georgia state title by completing 250-of-406 passes for 3,904 yards and 51 touchdowns. He was voted the Player of the Year in the star-studded state of Georgia by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which says Lawrence is 2,477 yards and 40 TDs from breaking the state record of 13,077 and 159 held by none other than Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson of Gainesville. Lawrence, 42-2 as a starter and winner of 30 straight games, is following Watson to Clemson.
2. OG — Jamaree Salyer, Pace Academy (Atlanta)The 6-4, 342-pounder is definitely a load. He's the top-ranked guard in the country and No. 7 recruit overall. Salyer currently has 28 offers, but appears most attracted to Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State and Stanford.
3. QB — Justin Fields, Harrison (Kennesaw)The 6-3, 221-pounder can really move for such a big body. He runs a 4.51 40-yard dash and has a whopping 40 offers, but is a firm commit to Penn State. Last season, he completed 186-of-279 passes for 2,770 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also rushed for 15 scores. That's why he's earned a 5-star rating and is the No. 20 recruit overall in the country.
4. QB — Emory Jones, Heard County (Franklin)Another strong dual threat quarterback, Jones is 6-4 and weighs 190 pounds. He's ranked the No. 24 recruit overall in the county, which is music to the ears of Ohio State coach Urban Meyer. Jones committed to the Buckeyes in July of 2016. Also a standout basketball player, he averaged 9.5 points as a freshman.
5. OG Trey Hill, Houston County (Warner Robins)The 6-4, 346-pounder is the nation's second-rated guard behind Salyer. A Georgia commit, Hill is ranked the No. 31 recruit overall in the country and is just below a 5-star ranking.
6. LB — J.J. Peterson, Colquitt County (Moultrie)The 6-2, 210-pounder has sideline-to-sideline speed, which is why he's ranked the No. 1 player at his position in the country. He's the No. 35 recruit overall. He's got 11 offers, but Alabama appears to be his destination, though Auburn is coming hard.
7. DE — Brenton Cox, StockbridgeThe rangy 6-5, 247-pounder has already committed to Ohio State. He did that on April 25. Cox is ranked the second best defensive end in the country and No. 44 overall.
8. S — Derrik Allen, Lassiter (Marietta)The 6-2, 211-pounder can play either cornerback or safety, but now he's ranked the No. 5 safety in the country and No. 51 recruit overall. He committed to Notre Dame on Feb. 13, right after National Signing Day. He has 35 offers, so don't count out Ohio State, Clemson or home state Georgia in this process.
9. DT — Robert Cooper, South Gwinnett (Snellville)The 6-2, 377-pounder is the only defensive tackle on this list, but he is a definite run-stopper. Cooper is ranked the fifth-best DT in the country and No. 63 overall recruit. He seems firmly committed to Florida State, pledging to the Seminoles in June of 2016. He's got 34 offers, however, so don't count out Georgia or South Carolina.
10. OT — Dylan Wonnum, TuckerThe only tackle on the list, the 6-5, 280-pounder is climbing up the recruiting charts. He's ranked the seventh-best tackle nationally and No. 64 overall. He has yet to commit, but Florida, South Carolina, Auburn and Georgia are in hot pursuit.
