Video: Top 10 Plays of the WeekHigh school football's biggest weekend didn't disappoint.A little over a decade ago, Calallen football fan Steven Floyd had a question. Where did Calallen football coach Phil Danaher rank among the all-time winningest coaches in Texas?
Floyd's question led to years of research. During that time, he built up what has to be the definitive list of coaching win/loss records. His list includes game-by-game research for most of the coaches on the list and it includes many coaches whose accomplishments are not yet recognized by the National Federation of High Schools record book.
One prominent name on the list is Danaher, who is primed to become the all-time wins leader in Texas sometime during the 2016 season. With 418 wins, Danaher ranks sixth among active coaches and No. 2 all-time in Texas behind leader G.A. Moore, who won 426 games at four different schools before retiring in 2011.
Danaher, whose Calallen team opened the season with a 20-7 win over Mercedes (Texas) last week, could break Moore's record sometime around late October. Danaher's teams have won an average of 10 games per season during his tenure.
John Curtis of John Curtis Christian (River Ridge, La.) leads the list of active coaches with the most wins with 548. He also has the most state titles with 26 and counting.
Following is Floyd's list of Top 50 Active Winningest Coaches, including years of tenure, number of schools coached, all-time record and all-time state titles.
