Shepherd (Texas) gave up his first hit and his first run of the season on Friday, ending a streak of 18 no-hit innings to start the season.
Kolek, who had thrown a complete-game no-hitter in his previous outing, finished with a two-hitter in an 8-1 win over Coldsprings-Oakhurst. The 6-foot-5 right-hander struck out 13 in the win and has 48 strikeouts in just 22.1 innings pitched this year.

MaxPreps Top 100 Seniors list. Following are nine more seniors who are off to strong starts.
Michael Chavis, Sprayberry (Marietta, Ga.)The shortstop has at least one hit in all 13 games his team has played, with 10 multi-hit outings. He's batting .667 (26 for 50) with 15 runs scored, 17 RBIs, four doubles and six home runs. His best outing came against Osborne in a 10-0 win when he went 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs.
Mac Marshall, Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.)The 6-foot-2 left-hander has yet to allow an earned run and has given up just six hits and one earned run in building a 4-0 record. He has struck out 32 batters in 20 innings pitched, including 11 in a win over Archer and 10 in a win over Shiloh.
Brady Aiken, Cathedral Catholic (San Diego)In two outings, Aiken has given up just one hit and no runs in posting a 2-0 record. He has struck out 20 batters in 8.2 innings pitched while walking only two. He struck out 12 in 4.2 innings against La Costa Canyon.
Jackson Reetz, Norris (Firth, Neb.)You won't find many season-opening performances better than Reetz's. He went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, five RBIs, a triple and two home runs in leading his team to an 11-0 win over Lincoln. He went 1-for-2 against Waverly and is batting .667 (4 for 6) on the season.

Michael Gettys, Gainesville (Ga.)Possibly the top two-way performer in the senior class, Gettys is batting .500 (12 for 24) with 11 runs scored, 11 RBIs, two doubles and three home runs. In a recent 10-5 win over Apalachee, Gettys was 2-for-4 with five RBIs and two home runs. On the mound, he is 2-1 with 27 strikeouts in 14.2 innings with a 0.95 ERA.
Alex Verdugo, Sahuaro (Tucson, Ariz.)Another top two-way performer, Verdugo has been outstanding at the plate, batting .690 (20 for 29) with 16 runs, 19 RBIs, nine doubles, two triples and two home runs. In a 17-7 win over Cholla, Verdugo was 3-for-3 with a double and two home runs and seven RBIs. On the mound, Verdugo is 1-1 with 16 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings pitched.
Marcus Wilson, Serra (Gardena, Calif.)Although his team lost 5-3 to Los Alamitos on Saturday, Wilson had a big day in going 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, a double and a home run. He is batting .545 on the season (6 for 11) with two home runs.
Chase Vallot, St. Thomas More (Lafayette, La.)The Cougars have played 18 games already and Vallot is in the midst of a very strong season. He is batting .583 (28 for 48) with 22 runs scored, 36 RBIs, 10 doubles and seven home runs.
Carson Sands, North Florida Christian (Tallahassee, Fla.)The senior left-hander is closing in on 40 career wins and 400 career strikeouts. He is off to a 4-1 start with a 0.57 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 24.2 innings pitched. He has a 35-9 career record with 398 strikeouts.
