Video: Connor Cook's High School Highlights
The steady climb of quarterback
Connor Cook started all the way back at
Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio).
The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder was ranked the No. 9 pro-style quarterback by MaxPreps his senior year at Walsh Jesuit, where he started two seasons.
As a junior he accounted for 1,303 yards and 11 touchdowns, but then upped those numbers to 2,143 yards and 20 scores in 2010. He was his team's Most Valuable Offensive Back after completing 116 of 199 passes for 1,700 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed 79 times (including sacks) for 443 yards and five scores.
That running ability and mobility for a big quarterback attracted Michigan State, which made him his only offer.
He redshirted one season for the Spartans, and then steadily improved, throwing for 94 yards as a redshirt freshman; 2,755 yards with 22 touchdowns as a sophomore; 3,214 yards (24 touchdowns) as a junior, and 3,131 yards (24 scores) as a senior.
