Video: 5 straight no-hitters
Now Sonoma Academy has five in a rowSonoma Academy (Santa Rosa, Calif.) added its fifth straight no-hitter with a 3-0 win over Rincon Valley Christian (Santa Rosa) on Tuesday.
Dylan De La Montanya went six innings to get the win, giving him four of the victories during the five-game, no-hit streak. He had 13 strikeouts on the day and extended his streak of no-hit innings to 19 in a row, including his last two innings on the mound in a loss to Northgate (Walnut Creek) earlier this season.
The state record for consecutive no-hit innings pitched is 24 1/3, set by Maxwell's Steven Perry in 2011. As a team, Maxwell had a national record 11 no-hitters (and seven one-hitters), but never had more than two no-hitters in a row. Perry set a state record for consecutive no-hitters with four and also had five no-hitters for the season.
Ethan Jones pitched the final inning and had two strikeouts for Sonoma Academy. Jones has pitched six of the no-hit innings and has the other win in the streak.
Sonoma Academy has had 29 straight no-hit innings. The Coyotes will go for a sixth-straight no-hitter Friday at Upper Lake, a team that is 1-8 on the season.
