When MaxPreps released its 2014 Preseason Top 25 Early Contenders presented by Eastbay in early June, many fans took issue with Allen's No. 2 ranking, claiming the Eagles should hold the top spot.
Apparently, that claim has some serious merit.
Allen took home the No. 1 spot in two different national rankings and is the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Preseason Composite 25 Rankings.
Cedar Hill, St. John Bosco, Hoover and St. Thomas Aquinas round out the Top 5.
Bishop Gorman (USA Today), Cedar Hill and St. Thomas Aquinas are the only other teams besides Allen to garner No. 1 rankings. Cedar Hill is No. 1 in the MaxPreps Preseason Top 25 Early Contenders; St. Thomas Aquinas is tops in the PrepNation Preseason National Football Poll and Athlon's Top 25.
Sixteen teams were ranked in at least five of the six polls, showing a solid consensus on most teams. Eight teams were ranked in all six polls.
Composite rankings are taken from the following polls: MaxPreps Xcellent 25, MaxPreps Computer Rankings, USA Today, High School Football America, PrepNation and Athlon.
The MaxPreps Computer Rankings are unofficial and could change before the start of the season.
