Video: MaxPreps Cup - Jesuit (OR)After winning state championships in boys and girls swimming during the winter sports season,
Jesuit (Portland, Ore.) has moved into first place in the MaxPreps Cup standings.
The Crusaders, with 570 points, have five state championships to their credit during the first two thirds of the 2015-16 school year. Besides the two swimming titles, Jesuit has also won state titles in girls soccer, girls volleyball and football.
Jesuit takes over the top spot from La Salle Academy (Providence, R.I.), which was No. 1 after the fall sport season. La Salle Academy has since fallen to No. 5. Bozeman (Mont.), with five total state championships this year, has moved up from No. 6 to No. 2 with 564 points. Champlain Valley Union (Hinesburg, Vt.) with four state titles, and Brentwood Academy (Tenn.), which has five state championships, are tied at No. 3 with 544 points.
Moving up quickly is Bentonville (Ark.), which was the MaxPreps Cup champion in 2014 and 2015. Bentonville won state championships in boys and girls swimming during the winter and finished as runner-up in boys basketball and wrestling. Bentonville has 530 points and trails La Salle Academy, which has 538.
The MaxPreps Cup is determined by ranking all schools that win a state
championship or finish second at the state (or section level if there is
no state competition) finals.
Points are also weighted, giving
more points to states that have a high number of schools as well as more
points to schools that compete in larger enrollment divisions. Sports
are also weighted differently with football and basketball, among
others, receiving more points than sports like golf and tennis.
Teams
are also given points for being ranked in the Xcellent 25 football and
volleyball rankings, the MaxPreps soccer computer rankings and the Dye
Stat national cross country rankings.
