MaxPreps 2013 Football Sophomore All-American Teams

Timber Creek quarterback Dan Williams set New Jersey's all-time single-season passing record in 2013.

He couldn't have done so without sophomore sensation Cameron Chambers.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound sophomore made 57 catches for 1,196 yards and 12 touchdowns going up against some of the toughest competition in South Jersey. Most impressively, Chambers played his best football on the team's biggest stages. In the South Jersey Group 3 section semifinals and finals, Chambers totaled 18 catches for 392 yards and five touchdowns.

Chambers is the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year, and highlights an impressive group of players from the Class of 2016.


First Team Offense

WR - Cameron Chambers, 6-3, 195, Timber Creek Regional (Erial, N.J.)
Chambers snagged 57 catches for 1,196 yards and 12 touchdowns for one of New Jersey's top teams.

WR - Sam Bruce, 5-9, 170, University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
The lightning-quick Bruce was sensational as a sophomore. He made 45 catches for 679 yards and nine touchdowns.

WR - Scott Bracey, 6-2, 185, Benedictine (Richmond, Va.)
Perhaps the top receiver in his class, Bracey made 51 catches for 900 yards and seven touchdowns.

TE - Octavious Cooley, 6-4, 210, Laurel (Miss.)
It was another monster year for Cooley. He caught 51 passes for 1,007 yards and 12 touchdowns.

OL - Willie Allen, 6-6, 290, Curtis (River Ridge, La.)
Allen was responsible for protecting Curtis quarterbacks as well as opening holes for the Patriots' prodigious ground game.

OL - Ben Cleveland, 6-6, 315, Stephens County (Toccoa, Ga.)
Cleveland is a mauler with surprising agility.

OL - Gregory Little, 6-6, 280, Allen (Texas)
Playing for one of the country's top teams, Little stepped in as a sophomore and dominated the line of scrimmage.

OL - Erik Swenson, 6-5, 290, Downers Grove South (Ill.)
The Michigan commit was one of the top linemen in Illinois as a sophomore.

OL - Rashan Gary, 6-4, 290, Scotch Plains-Fanwood (Scotch Plains, N.J.)
Gary, who had a Rutgers offer before playing a down of high school football, continues to dominate both sides off the ball.

QB - Harley Kirsch, 6-3, 205, Eastside Catholic (Sammamish, Wash.)
Kirsch led Eastside Catholic to the state title game by connecting on 244 of 384 attempts for 3,535 yards and 35 touchdowns.

QB - Tyler Johnston, 6-2, 200, Spanish Fort (Ala.)
Johnston led Spanish Fort to a 15-0 season and Class 5A title. He threw for 31 touchdowns and only three interceptions, while accounting for 3,700 total yards.

RB - Robert Washington, 5-11, 195, SouthLake Christian Academy (Huntersville, N.C.)
Washington led all sophomores in rushing with 219 carries for 2,512 yards and 28 touchdowns.

RB - Mark Walton, 5-11, 180, Washington (Miami)
Playing on the nation's best team, Walton exploded for 743 yards and 12 touchdowns on just 85 carries.

RB - Trevor Speights, 5-9, 175, McAllen Memorial (Texas)
Speights carried the ball 260 times, gaining 2,267 yards and finding the end zone 25 times.

RB - Antonio Williams, 5-11, 199, North Stanly (New London, N.C.)
By rushing for 2,170 yards as a sophomore, Williams crossed the 3,500-yard mark for his career.

First Team Defense

DL - Boss Tagaloa, 6-2, 260, De La Salle (Concord, Calif.)
Tagaloa was a key cog in another devastating Spartans defense. He made 53 tackles and 7.5 sacks leading into the team's matchup with Folsom.

DL - Nicholas Bosa, 6-3, 220, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
Last year's National Freshman of the Year battled injuries but was able to record 10 sacks.

DL - Jordan Woods, 6-4, 250, Trinity Catholic (Ocala, Fla.)
Lining up at defensive end, Woods accumulated 60 tackles and eight sacks to go along with 11 quarterback hurries.

DL - Ed Oliver, 6-2, 285, Westfield (Houston)
Oliver was a force in the middle for Westfield, making 62 tackles and three sacks.

LB - Keion Joyner, 6-4, 204, Havelock (N.C.)
The sky is the limit for Joyner, who made five sacks and two interceptions this fall.

LB - Devin White 6-2, 225, North Webster (Springhill, La.)
The Shreveport Times Offensive Player of the Year starred on defense, tallying 99 tackles at linebacker in addition to 1,094 yards and 20 scores on offense.

LB - Jaquan Yulee, 6-2, 215, Lakeland (Suffolk, Va.)
Yulee followed up his debut season with a 10th-grade performance that earned him all-conference honors.

LB - Lyndell Wilson, 6-3, 215, Carver (Montgomery, Ala.)
Wilson made 61 tackles and sacked the quarterback seven times.

LB - Marvin Terry, 6-2, 210, South Oak Cliff (Dallas)
Terry can also line up with his hand on the ground, where he spent much of the season for South Oak Cliff. He recorded a 109 tackles and 19.5 sacks to go along with Class 4A all-state honors.

DB - Tyler Byrd, 5-11, 180, Naples (Fla.)
The speedy Byrd moved to corner this year. He excelled, making 48 tackles, deflecting five passes and coming up with two interceptions.

DB - Nate Craig, 6-3, 200, Pasco (Dade City, Fla.)
Craig is an absolute freak, and could end up being one of the top recruits in his class.

DB - Brandon Jones, 6-0, 180, Nacogdoches (Texas)
It's no surprise that Jones already has a scholarship offer from Texas A&M. He recorded 95 tackles and five interceptions as a sophomore.

DB - Khalil Ladler, 6-1, 185, Stephenson (Stone Mountain, Ga.)
A shutdown corner with a safety side, Ladler intercepted four passes, including one he returned for a touchdown.
